“Glenstorm, I wish we could have met under different circumstances. I am Rose, and unfortunately I’ve no idea where the kings and queens are at the moment. Would you mind indulging me? What is this danger you speak of? Everyone seems to be quite on edge and I haven’t gotten any answers as to what is going on. It has me just as worried as everyone else.” Rose spoke up with confidence in her voice even though she felt shaky. She was scared, the danger had to be bad.
“If you wish to hear, lady, I will certainly tell you,” He looked out on the fair towers again and shook his head, “There are rumors that Jadis is abroad. Of course, they were only rumors, but now, the nymphs and druids have turned against Aslan and the kings. We received a disturbing message that said Astoria had sold the trees to the White Witch in desperation and fear. Lady Liberty also went to see her, and all she had were grave tidings,” Glenstorm shook his head, “The kings and queens must decided quickly.”
“Jadis?! I was sure she was gone. I remember of your loyalty to Narnia, Glenstorm, for you see I am a star and I have watched over these lands for years. You say Astoria sold the trees? That puts together a few pieces of the puzzle. You are quite right, decisions must be made quickly.” Rose’s thoughts raced through her mind like bullets. This was what her brother had been trying to tell her. She knew her family would be sending messages to leave Narnia, but now she would do nothing of the sorts. She had friends here, and would not abandon the land she watched for years and felt the need to protect. “What can I do?”
Glenstorm nodded silently, “That’s right, Jadis. I do not think she is back, but her secret police have gone among the trees. I do not think you have to leave, but if you stay, you must be prepared to face death. M’lady, stern times have come. Dark times, I fear. I have seen your kin, the stars have been growing restless.”
Secret police… Adam had said something about wolves! It felt strange to hear about the stars being restless, because generally she was included when the stars were spoken of. It was now the opposite, instead of being in the sky watching conflict from above, she was in conflict watching the sky from below. Prepared to face death? Well that did scare her, but Rose knew. This was a place that welcomed her openly when she was shunned from her home, a place she had always watched and loved. She could not abandon Narnia now, even if death was a possibility. “I am prepared to face whatever may come. I’m not about to abandon Narnia now, it has become my home. I will attempt contact with my fellow stars again, and see what information they may have. They know far more than we.”
Glenstorm watched her carefully. She was a very beautiful star, and it saddened him to see her confused. “Narnia is very dear to my own heart, lady. It saddens me to think of it torn apart again. Do you fight? Do you wield a sword?” When she said that stars saw more than any creature, he smiled softly, “That they do, and it is why I watch them. They are wise, though many doubt it. Come, show me the way in.”
Oh how she wish she did fight. If only Rose and Alyssa would have spent more time on that than exploring she would be more prepared… But she could learn, she had to. “Unfortunately, I do not fight nor wield a sword. But I can be of some use, and I am a fast learner. Show me how to handle a weapon and I’m sure I could do it.” Rose smiled with confidence, not only for Glenstorm but for herself. She walked further, into the castle, and motioned for the centaur to do so as well. “They are quite wise, yes. I just wish I had a solid way of communication, it is a tough thing to do. To get my brother’s attention from the sky, I must draw blood. He would feel it as well, and watch me closely to hear what I have to say.”
